Bayshore Boulevard
Gasparilla sounds like an exotic drink...or perhaps even a rare, tropical flower. But, as any Tampa resident can attest, "Gasparilla" means boats, pirates, parades, merriment and more. It means the city's illustrious festival celebration is, once again, about to begin.
Jose Gaspar was a Pirate who is said to have ravaged the waters of Florida. When he died, he supposedly left an untold fortune in buried treasure somewhere along the Florida coast. Though that treasure has never been discovered, the story of the swashbuckling Gasparilla was unearthed and his memory revived in 1904 when Tampa's social and civic leaders adopted the pirate as patron rogue of their city-wide celebration. Over the years, the celebration has grown from a local event, to one that is now becoming known nationally, and held every February.
The Bayshore hosts this fabulous parade. (There is also a wonderful children's parade held one week prior). Why not have the best seat in town for all of the festivities?
Tampa's most elegant and stately homes are right along the Bayshore, which also claims the longest running sidewalk in the world- you can stroll or jog right alongside the Hillsborough Bay. Numerous townhouse's and high-rise condominiums stand amongst the stately manors bordering the city's most illustrious shore, from the southern end of town, near the Tampa Yacht and Country Club to the outskirts of Downtown Tampa. A wide variety of 2 to 4 bedroom condominiums are also available along this impressive waterfront boulevard.
