Highland Park

Within a housing or community selection "market," Cultural Creatives are likely to demand, or at least to appreciate, authentic architectural design, access to natural and social ecosystems, historic preservation sites and master-plans for development that demonstrate the ways and means to create and/or to re-create community. Although many Cultural Creatives would like to be engaged by the new home market, many are so alienated by their perception of ubiquitous mediocrity among the new home opportunities they see, they have eliminated new houses in new communities as viable home purchase alternatives. Highland Park will address this largely unmet demand. Cultural Creatives are ready for alternatives and Highland Park will provide them.

Decisions about where to make home are not principally about the house itself. Bigger is not necessarily better. Fancier is not necessarily finer. The place is the thing! Issues surrounding choice of home-place are also about how Cultural Creatives choose to live, what's important for a balanced existence, and choices/actions that will encourage a healthy planet and community for themselves, their children, and for future generations. Cultural Creatives are eager to live their own lives in ways that support their values.

One of several lakes within Highland Park is "Galt Lake." Galt Lake is small enough to be intimate, but large enough to row, sail, fish, and play. To make it a better place for kids to play (and for homeowners to live on), the neighborhood will disallow the use of powered watercraft of any kind (small electric trolling motors excepted). We want Galt Lake to be a beautiful, enticing, bucolic place, not a loud and rambunctious one.

All residents at Highland Park will have access to the Lake in several places – including the Lake House, Lake Park, and elsewhere. The "far side" of Lake Galt (as well as much of Lake Dagny) is a permanent agricultural preserve – so that it shall remain green and undeveloped in perpetuity.

The Highland Park plan of development is based on the best features of a traditional town: pedestrian-friendly streets, attractive public spaces, a mix of land uses and a choice of housing options.

Unlike typical suburbs that separate homes from businesses, Highland Park's design is intended to mix commercial, civic and residential uses in a way that enlivens the community. Restaurants, shops and offices provide activity and convenience. The community is designed for walkability, through a combination of narrower, tree-lined streets, sidewalks, compact lots, and, in some areas, alleys for rear garage access.
